The Birthday Party
December 16, 2008
It’s been a frantic week or so, as most people experience this time of the year. Lucy turned ten last week and we had a birthday party for her on Saturday night. It was themed “Winter Wonderland” (her idea!) and it turned out to be a lot of fun. Exhausting for me, but a success, nonetheless. I was pleased at both how friendly, polite, and respectful all her friends were, and simultaneously shocked at how wild and raucous these girls could get if too many minutes went by without structured event programming! I’m glad I had a lot of games and activities planned…
We had dinner – breakfast dinner, because Lucy loves breakfast for dinner. My buttermilk coffeecake, bacon, sausage, citrus fruit salad, breakfast potatoes. Yummy!
We did crafts – icicles with metallic pipe cleaners and sparkly clear and blue beads..
We had games – good old fashioned musical chairs, a toss the snowball competition (using cotton balls), winter-themed charades, and a game involving stuffing as many big marshmallows into the mouth and attempting to say “Chubby Bunny Talks Funny.”
We also had the girls decorate the cupcakes which we then used as the birthday cake.
Lucy declared it “the best birthday ever.” Yay! Now, on to getting ready for Christmas….
